Prior to reforming Sarowdin Partners in October 2019, Chris Barnes was Vice President, Corporate Development for Newalta (publicly traded, Calgary based oilfield services company). There he was responsible for executing Newalta’s strategy of growing its presence in the United States where the market was highly fragmented even within individual basins. While a generalist banker, Chris does have particular experience in the energy space (time at Newalta and Lehman Brothers). Prior to Newalta, Chris created and successfully ran Sarowdin Partners for 10 years, always focusing on the mission of providing senior level, Wall Street quality investment banking experience to companies at the smaller end of the middle markets. The firm never tried to move up-market.
Prior to starting Sarowdin Partners, Chris had partner level responsibilities with Gallagher Enterprises, a middle market leveraged buyout firm investing family capital. Previously, he spent seven years with Tucker Anthony Sutro/Cleary Gull, a middle market, full-service investment bank. From 1986 to 1992, Chris worked in the Natural Resources Investment Banking group for Lehman Brothers in New York. Chris initially worked as a drilling engineer for Arco Oil and Gas.
Chris holds a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master of Management degree from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
